Artist statement...
J1 – Our Aboriginal Education Space is more than just a room; it is a place where belonging, connection and culture come together. J1 is open not only to our First Nations students, but to our whole school community. It provides a culturally safe space where students can feel connected, supported and welcomed. It is a place of culture, connection, calm and support, where students can build relationships with one another, connect with mob and learn from community. Through J1, we are creating opportunities for our students to develop their leadership skills, mentor younger students and share their culture and knowledge with others. Our First Nations students are empowered to become leaders within our school, while other students are given opportunities to listen, learn and develop a deeper understanding and respect for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander cultures. J1 helps us build a stronger sense of belonging today, while creating a more connected, respectful and culturally safe school community for tomorrow. Belonging today. Building tomorrow. Connecting culture, community and people.
Reconciliation means...
Reconciliation means connection, community and hope. It means striving for better and creating a future where difference is accepted without question or judgement.
It is about choosing to unite rather than divide, embracing the differences that make us who we are and recognising that we all have something to learn from one another.
Reconciliation is about listening, understanding and building relationships based on respect. It is about creating a community where culture is valued, voices are heard and everyone feels that they belong.
We want acceptance, connection and respect to become our norm, not something we talk about occasionally, but something we live every day.
