Artist statement...
Deadly Arts creates belonging in the most direct sense: a weekly space where First Nations students see their culture celebrated, practised and valued as a living tradition. Students return week after week, building a sustained relationship with First Nations art forms that goes well beyond a single lesson or event. For non-Indigenous students, it has opened a genuine entry point into understanding Country and culture. The program’s reach into the broader community through NITV, Westmead Children’s Hospital, Arts and Cultural Exchange and the Penrith Panthers Women’s Team shows that the belonging it builds does not stop at the school gate. Students who feel seen and valued here are students who carry that confidence into the future they are building.
Reconciliation means...
To us, Reconciliation means supporting First Nations students to celebrate their culture and ensuring it is proudly represented within their school environment. It means creating meaningful opportunities, celebrating culture alongside students and the wider community, and listening to and valuing First Nations voices. Reconciliation is about building a school where every student feels a strong sense of belonging and working together today to create a more respectful and inclusive future.
